Homeopathy Treatment for Acidity

The stomach normally secretes acid that is essential in the digestive process and helps in breaking down the food during digestion. Normally, there are some protective mechanisms against the acid, in the stomach & proximal intestine. An imbalance between the protective mechanisms & the level of acid secretion can cause acidity.

Acidity is commonly seen in nervous or emotional people and those in high-stress jobs. Alcohol, smoking, spicy food, irregular meals, lack of exercise, a predominantly non-vegetarian diet, excessive use of common pain killers predispose to gastric acidity.

Acidity commonly presents as heartburn and dyspepsia. Heart burn is characterized by a deeply placed, burning pain in the chest behind the sternum (breast-bone). It occurs after meals and is precipitated by increase in intra-abdominal pressure like straining or lifting weights. It is more common at night when a person is lying down. Regurgitation of the gastric contents may also occur. Dyspepsia is a burning or an aching pain in the upper abdomen. In rare cases there may be no pain, but only a feeling of indigestion, fullness, bloating, flatulence or nausea.
